Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman ever to to score a double century in One Day Internationals. Sachin achieved this feat in the second one-dayer against South Africa in Gwalior on Wednesday, by scoring 200 not out off just 147 balls as India scored 401-3 in 50 overs.
The master batsman, who holds the record for most runs and centuries in Test (13,447) and one-day (17,398) cricket, scored
Sachin’s previous best was an unbeaten 186 against New Zealand at Hyderabad, in 1999. Tendulkar, who registered his 46th ODI century in the process, got to 200 with a single off Charl Langeveldt in the final over of the game, having earlier broken the World record for the highest individual innings, of 194, jointly held by Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar and Zimbabwe’s Charles Coventry. Dwayne Bravo scored a superb 34-ball 58 as Trinidad and Tobago crashed Cape Cobras by seven wickets in the second semi-final and entered the final of the Champions League T20, in Hyderabad on Thursday.
Chasing a stiff 176 to set up a final with New South Wales Blues, Bravo and skipper Daren Ganga (44) produced a match-winning unbeaten 93-run stand for the third wicket to overhaul the target with four balls to spare at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium.
Earlier, electing to bat, Cape Cobras amassed a challenging 175 for five in 20 overs. J P Duminy (62 not out) and Herschelle Gibbs (42) were their top-scorers.
The match seemed evenly poised when Trinidad and Tobago lost three wickets at the half-way stage, but Bravo and Ganga batted fearlessly and took the match away from the South Africans, who were let down by some poor fielding. Read the rest of this entry »

Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh, who is the father of cricket star Yuvraj Singh, Thursday lost his maiden election from Haryana’s Panchkula assembly seat.
Yograj, who was fielded by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), was defeated by Congress candidate Devender Kumar Bansal from the Panchkula seat, adjoining state capital Chandigarh, by over 12,250 votes.
Yuvraj had not come to campaign for his father, who had put up posters of his celebrity son. At one point Yograj was trailing at fourth place among main candidates but recovered later to end runner-up in the election. Read the rest of this entry »
